Innovative 'Nivasam' App Launches to Transform Shelter Management in Andhra Pradesh

Urban development in Andhra Pradesh reached a significant milestone with the launch of the ‘Nivasam’ app, spearheaded by the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister P. Narayana. This innovative platform aims to streamline the management of shelters for urban homeless, marking a new era of care and oversight.

A Leap Towards Better Shelter Management

The ‘Nivasam’ app and an accompanying dashboard are designed to optimize operations and maintenance for urban homeless shelters. By enhancing transparency and efficiency, this tool promises a more organized approach to addressing the needs of one of society’s most vulnerable groups. Minister Narayana, during a vibrant workshop in Vijayawada, emphasized the significance of such technological advancements in improving urban living conditions.

Empowering Entrepreneurs: A Key Focus

Simultaneously, efforts to foster entrepreneurship among women are being taken to new heights. The revamped website of the Mission for Elimination of Poverty in Municipal Areas (MEPMA) complements the app launch. Not only does it support self-help groups, but the platform also plays a vital role in the broader Women’s Business Development Action Plan for 2025-26. With cheques handed to PM SVANidhi beneficiaries and certificates to outstanding SC entrepreneurs, the state’s commitment to empowerment is clear.

Strategic Partnerships and Financial Security

An essential Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MEPMA and the Labour Department further underscored the event’s progressive nature. This collaboration is set to connect unorganised workers with the e-Shram scheme, securing financial stability for them. According to The Hindu, such partnerships are pivotal in driving sustainable growth and economic resilience.

An Ambitious Roadmap

MEPMA Mission Director N. Tej Bharat highlighted the ambitious initiatives planned for the next fiscal year. These include scaling up SHG products through e-commerce platforms, such as Amazon Saheli, and nurturing 30,000 women entrepreneurs state-wide. With a vision of zero poverty and universal entrepreneurship, Andhra Pradesh positions itself as a leader in inclusive growth.

Financial Commitment to Change

Significant financial backing accompanies these initiatives, with ₹8,000 crore allocated for SHG loans, and substantial funds committed to employment schemes. This level of investment shows the state’s dedication to uplifting urban communities through viable economic opportunities.

With leaders like Principal Secretary S. Suresh Kumar advocating for zero poverty, and Labour Department Secretary M.V. Sheshagiri Babu endorsing these efforts, Andhra Pradesh stands united in its mission to transform urban living. The launch of the ‘Nivasam’ app is more than a technological breakthrough—it is a promise of hope and progressive change.
