Janani Suraksha Yojana: Revolutionizing Maternal Care with Technology
Explore the integration of the Mantra App with Janani Suraksha Yojana to provide financial aid and healthcare support to pregnant women.

Imagine a world where every pregnant woman in need receives timely financial aid seamlessly through an app on her mobile phone. This dream is being turned into a reality with the integration of the Mantra App into the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), a vital central government initiative under the National Health Mission. According to Jagran English, this innovation is transforming maternal care across India, aiming to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by promoting institutional deliveries among poor pregnant women.
A New Dawn with the Mantra App
The recent introduction of the Mantra App by the Health Department marks a pivotal shift towards transparency in disbursing financial aid under JSY. The app maintains detailed digital records of each beneficiary’s payment information, thereby ensuring efficient tracking and seamless fund transfers. For pregnant women, this means registering via the e-Kavach portal, utilizing their Abha ID and Aadhaar number. Additional features include tracking regular health checkups, newborn vaccinations, and documenting birth details, all updated in real time.
Scheme Details and Benefits
Launched on April 12, 2005, the Janani Suraksha Yojana covers all states and Union Territories, with specific emphasis on Low Performing States (LPS). The scheme incentivizes institutional deliveries, offering cash assistance to expectant mothers — Rs 1,400 in rural LPS and Rs 1,000 in urban LPS. In High Performing States (HPS), the payout is Rs 700 in rural areas and Rs 600 in urban areas. Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), who connect pregnant women with healthcare services, are also compensated, fostering a support network for all expecting mothers.
Additionally, BPL women opting for home births receive Rs 500 per delivery, emphasizing care regardless of the number of children or age.
Eligibility and Application Process
In LPS, all pregnant women are eligible for JSY benefits when delivering in government or accredited private facilities, while HPS focuses on BPL/SC/ST women. To benefit from JSY, registration through the Mantra App is crucial, leveraging the e-Kavach portal. However, assistance is readily available at local healthcare centers or through ASHAs, ensuring every woman’s journey to motherhood is supported with dignity and respect.
A Brighter Future for Maternal Health
The digital innovation through the Mantra App is ready to usher in a new era of maternal healthcare by providing streamlined, transparent, and efficient services across India. With continuous updates and the comfort of digital accessibility, Janani Suraksha Yojana is committed to nurturing the well-being of mothers and their newborns throughout the nation.
