MVP Ventures Opens Doors for Diverse Innovators in 2025-26
Kickstart your ambitions: MVP Ventures' second round for 2025-26 is now open, offering grants, particularly supporting diverse tech innovators in NSW.
The New South Wales (NSW) startup ecosystem is set to witness another wave of innovation as round two of the 2025-26 Minimum Viable Product (MVP) Ventures Program opens its doors. The government initiative aims to provide essential support to entrepreneurs who are ready to transition their ideas from mere concepts to market-ready products.
A Commitment to Diverse Entrepreneurship
Former Tech Council CEO Kate Pounder’s independent review highlighted significant gaps in support for demographics like women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and regional tech founders. In its quest to foster an inclusive and balanced innovation landscape, the MVP Ventures Program has tailored its guidelines to ensure these groups receive much-needed backing. As stated in Mirage News, the initiative underscores NSW’s commitment to cultivating diverse entrepreneurial talent.
The Financial Framework to Empower Founders
This financial year, the program offers a substantial \(3 million through two significant streams. For all eligible businesses, Stream One offers up to \)50,000 in grants, requiring a minimal co-contribution of 50%. Meanwhile, Stream Two is designed to support women-owned, regional, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses, with grants reaching up to $75,000 and co-contributions as low as 25%.
The Competitive Edge in Innovation
Applications are evaluated through a competitive process, seeking projects with remarkable innovation potential, strong commercial viability, and alignment with the NSW Industry Policy missions. This structure aims to elevate projects that not only contribute commercially but also uphold values of equity and accessibility, key elements in the NSW Innovation Blueprint.
Reflecting on Round One Insights
The initial round earlier this year saw 309 applications, with 88 advancing to a further assessment. The anticipation builds, as successful applicants from this pool are expected to be announced in Q1 of the upcoming year, setting a potentially promising precedent for round two aspirants.
Ministerial Encouragement
Minister for Innovation, Science and Technology Anoulack Chanthivong remarks, “NSW houses a vibrant startup community, and the MVP Ventures Program is crafted to empower our founders to transform groundbreaking ideas into commercial victories.”
Entrepreneurs and innovators have until Sunday, 21 December 2025, to submit their applications. Interested parties can explore eligibility criteria and application guidelines on the official program page.
The Path Forward: Round Three and Beyond
Looking ahead, the program is set to launch its third round of applications next year, continuing its mission of nurturing a robust startup culture that values diversity, creativity, and economic growth within NSW.
Encouraging various communities to engage in this opportunity not only supports individual ambitions but also strengthens the economic fiber of the region, making it a beacon of inclusive innovation. The future of NSW’s innovation landscape seems promising, painted with diverse aspirations and pioneering ideas.
