Stay Alert: Scammers Target Users with Fake 'Govt Schemes J&K Bank' App
Fraudsters are impersonating J&K Bank schemes through a fake app, stealing sensitive data from unsuspecting users.

A Modern Threat
In what’s becoming an increasingly common scam, a new fraudulent mobile application is doing the rounds under the guise of “Govt Schemes J&K Bank.” Shared via WhatsApp, this app looks to prey on unsuspecting users, coaxing them into divulging sensitive information.
The Deceptive Design
Once installed, this fake app springs a trap, urging users to input OTPs, debit/credit card details, and confidential banking credentials. With these treasures, cybercriminals gain unauthorized access to victims’ bank accounts—a nightmare scenario for anyone involved.
A Bizarre Twist
In a cunning twist, the app clandestinely installs the genuine J&K Bank mPay application on the fraudster’s device using stolen login credentials. This enables transactions to be carried out undetected, leaving victims unaware of any foul play.
Public Advisory
In a public alert, District Police Anantnag strongly advises caution:
- Avoid downloading or installing apps received through unverified WhatsApp or SMS links.
- Never share OTPs, card numbers, CVVs, or ATM PINs with anyone, even if they claim official capacity.
- Limit financial app downloads to verified sources like Google Play Store or Apple’s App Store.
Taking Action
Any suspicious activity or unauthorized financial transaction should be reported to the nearest police station or Cyber Crime Cell immediately. Authorities have initiated a formal investigation to track down and capture those orchestrating these vile schemes.
A Shared Responsibility
As technology becomes a double-edged sword, collective awareness is key. Staying informed and alert not only helps protect oneself but also others, creating a vigilant community prepared to identify and thwart such digital dangers.
According to Brighter Kashmir, this heightened alertness and cooperative effort are our strongest defenses against cyber frauds.
