Youth Unites for Mental Health Action Day with Music and Empowerment

Music as a Voice for the Youth

This Thursday marks the impactful Mental Health Action Day in Denver, where an extraordinary synergy arises between music and mental wellbeing. In partnership with MTV, CBS Colorado, and Paramount, the day comes alive with the sound of young voices from Youth on Record (YOR). The initiative not only nurtures artistic talents but also emphasizes mental health as a crucial part of human development.

Finding Yet Contributing a Voice

For Sofia Young, an aspiring musician, the skein of melodies and lyrics became a sanctuary amidst life’s adolescent upheavals. “During middle school and high school, I expressed my emotions through songs,” she shares, highlighting how Youth on Record became her launchpad into a career she hadn’t initially envisioned. Now working as an intern, Sofia dedicates herself to empathetic creation, striving to make others feel understood through her music.

Training the Healers through Art

This Mental Health Action Day, Youth on Record takes a pioneering step by coaching young artists in “mental health first aid” using the innovative A.S.K. method: Acknowledge, Support, Keep in Touch. As Moses Graytower, another talented artist, enthusiastically stated, “Everybody deserves a robust tool kit for life’s challenges,” acknowledging the power in multi-faceted problem-solving techniques for mental wellness.

Supporting Mental Health Advocates

Responding to the overwhelming demand from its charismatic creatives, Youth on Record proudly employs Gavrielle Reyes as the full-time Mental Health and Wellness Manager. Reyes passionately advocates for the growth and joy of the youth, offering them an environment to flourish and genuine opportunities to simply be who they are without burdensome expectations.

Power of Community and Creation

The crescendo of creativity this Mental Health Action Day includes a community concert scheduled from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM at 1301 W. 10th Avenue in Denver. CBS Colorado anchor Karen Leigh will join in to elevate the profound truth that mental health is vital, not ancillary, to life. As stated in CBS News, such initiatives forge a resilient generation that harnesses both the therapeutic properties of music and the vitality of mental wellbeing, painting the future with hope and understanding.
